Who is eligible to apply for funding?
Programs that provide services within a best practices framework, that are collaborative and integrated into the fabric of other community Education, Income, Health and Safety Net efforts, that consider the goals, needs and aspirations of the communities they serve, and that are innovative are programs that UWSK seeks to support. Organizations that are federally tax exempt, nonprofit, and currently providing, or could successfully implement, quality programs in alignment with one or more of these strategies in the UWSK Community Impact Platform are encouraged to apply for UWSK funding.
What type of funding requests can be made?
The requests must fall within United Way's scope of work as defined by the Community Impact Platform of Work. The Flexible Support Grants funds cannot be used to fund programs that have been funded through the annual allocations process in that year.
Requests may fall in the following areas:
The minimum request is $1,000; the maximum recommended request is $10,000.
- Capital Needs
- Emergency Assistance (non-recurring, unforeseen critical financial needs that arise)
- Start-up Costs
- One time, nonrecurring program expenditures such as training, curriculum
How often will funds be dispersed?
Grant funds will be awarded quarterly until the pool of funds is expended.
The grant cycle will be quarterly, with requests due September 1, November 1, February 1 and May 1 or by emergency need, as long as there are available dollars in the grant pool. Review and notification will occur by the 15th of each of the submission deadline months or within 15 days of receiving the emergency request.

Are there additional requirements for receiving a United Way flexible support grant?
In addition to achieving impact in one of the priority areas/strategies, awarded funds must be spent within one year of receipt. A final report/letter describing and confirming use of funds, including vendor invoices and receipts if grant was for a specific purchase. This must be provided within one year of receipt.
