$40,000 in prescription assistance to 127 senior citizens in Barren
County

- With $85,000 of United Way investment, 87% of the girls enrolled in
Girls Inc. programs increased knowledge or skills upon completion of the
program. In addition, 64% are on the honor roll in their school work
- In Kentucky, there are more than 5,000 children in foster care
awaiting adoption
- With $2,500 of United Way investment, Kentucky Legal Aid established
$41,000 in annualized child support for 30 children from low-income,
single-parent homes
- One out of every seven Kentucky residents aged 65 and over lives below

- The average yearly cost of a nursing home stay (room and board) in the
BRADD region is $38,300
- There are 72,000 adult women in Kentucky who are abusing alcohol and

classes at Logan County Adult Education & Workforce Development
increased their literacy level, earned a GED, gained or retained
employment and/or entered post secondary education
- A rape is committed every 8 hours, 41 minutes in Kentucky
- 10% of children in the BRADD area, aged birth to 9 years, may be at
risk for an incidence of developmental delays and disabilities (about
3,401 children)
- 23.7% of Kentuckians has some type of disability
- One out of every three girls, and one out of every seven boys will be
sexually assaulted before their 18th birthday

You can do more through United Way than you could ever do alone. You
produce results every day in every part of our community. Here are just a
few of the ways you help improve more lives:
$3 per week...
· will assist with one rental deposit for a victim who left an abuser.
· will pay the GED Test fee for three adult students.
$5 per week...
· will provide supplies and pain medications for one terminally ill patient
for one month.
$8 per week...
· will support an at risk youth with programs designed to increase
self-esteem, improve social and educational skills, and become more
productiive.
· will provide recruitment, screening, training and support needed to
provide a positive role model and friend for a youth in need.
$10 per week...
· will provide evaluations for four children with developmental
disabilities.
· will furnish after school tutoring for 25 children who are struggling in
school.
$12 per week...
· will provide prescription coverage for one low income adult.
· will provide 60 nights of lodging at a homeless shelter.
· will provide childcare for one at risk child for three months.
$15 per week...
· will buy personal care items to distribute to 500 victims when they enter
an abuse shelter.
· will provide one abused or neglected child with an adult volunteer that
can serve as their “voice” in court.
· will provide a social development outing for 150 mentally challenged
individuals.
· will furnish 250 meals at a soup kitchen.
$1,000 per year...
· will provide three months worth of supplies and pain medications, a social
work visit, a chapain visit, and a nurse visit for one terminally ill
patient.
$5,000 per year...
· will buy six month’s worth of groceries for 225 victims of abuse.
$10,000 per year...
· will provide funding for a part time instructor to teach adults how to
read.
· will support two 24-hour crisis lines for one year.
