BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — On WBKO’s AM Kentucky on March 24th, Michael Long of Bowling Green, an employee at Hill’s Pet Nutrition, heard his name announced as the winner a $3000 Ford’s Furniture shopping spree. The giveaway is part of a promotion that United Way ran for the 2010/2011 United Way campaign that allowed anyone who wished to enter the drawing to be able to do so as long as they met one of the following requirements: donated the same amount as was donated in the previous year without decreasing that amount and the amount donated was at least $52; increased their donation from the previous year to $52; or became a first time giver with a minimum gift of $52. Over 3,400 United Way donors qualified for and opted-in to the drawing.

The $3000 shopping spree was donated in part by Ford’s Furniture for this promotion. The donations received as a result of this promotion contributed to the overall amount raised for the 2010/2011 United Way of Southern Kentucky campaign of $1,626,747. All of the money raised during this campaign will be used to impact the most critical issues facing Southern Kentucky residents including poverty, youth development, substance abuse, personal abuse, senior services, physical and developmental disabilities, and literacy.

“I was very excited to hear that I was the winner!” says Michael Long. “I have been donating to United Way of Southern Kentucky for several years. My mother and sister were helped by Hospice (a United Way Partner Agency) and that motivated me to want to help others here in Warren County the way my family was helped.” Michael says he has no idea what he plans to spend the $3000 on at Ford’s Furniture, but guarantees that it will be spent on something nice.
